Message from Bishop Schol | New District Superintendent

January 24, 2022 | GNJ News, Messages from the Bishop

Dear Spiritual Leaders and Disciples of GNJ,

Today I am happy to announce that Rev. Jana Purkis Brash will be the new superintendent starting July 1, 2022, for GNJ serving the Cape Atlantic District.

Over the years Jana has gained the respect of clergy and laity because she is:

  • Rooted in Christ and the church and has regularly practiced the spiritual disciplines of prayer, study, worship, Sabbath and service.
  • Trusted because she is balanced in her character and ability. Trust is born in people with virtuous character and fruitful effectiveness. Jana is transparent, consistent, holds sacred information in confidence, listens, and values differences in opinion, belief and perspectives. She is also competent, follows through, achieves results, is timely and a good communicator.
  • Effective because Jana is a proven leader who has led faithfully and fruitfully, providing in various roles and positions throughout the conference.

Jana has served as a pastor in different sized congregations and throughout GNJ. Most recently she has served as the Executive Director of the GNJ Stewardship Foundation. Under her leadership, the Foundation has grown by more than 50% and invests more than $60 million of congregation’s reserves and endowments through Wespath.

She will be serving with the Coastal Plains Region of GNJ that includes Superintendent Glenn Conaway; Team Leader, Superintendent Hector Burgos; Regional Resource Directors Lan Wilson and Enger Muteteke and 12 Circuit Elders. Together they oversee and develop approximately 250 congregations and more than 200 pastoral leaders.

I invite you to join me in welcoming Jana and praying for her and her leadership as she prepares to begin as the new superintendent in the Cape Atlantic District and a part of the Coastal Plains Region.
