Message from Bishop Schol | Covenant School Shooting

Dear Friends in Christ,

Today we mourn with those who have experienced another school shooting, and our hearts go out to the students, parents, and teachers who have been affected by this tragedy.

As people of faith, we turn to God for comfort and strength during this difficult time. And we are called to work toward transforming the world into a better place for the sake of Christ.

May those who mourn this day experience the words of Jesus, who said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4). We pray that God’s comforting presence will be felt by the community of Covenant School in Nashville, and that they will find hope and healing in the midst of their pain.

As United Methodists, we are also called to be peacemakers and advocates for justice. We must work to create a world where violence and hatred are no longer the norm, and where every child can feel safe and loved. Let us join together not only in prayer but also action, as we seek to bring about God’s kingdom of peace and love here on earth.

May the God of hope and healing be with us all in this time of sorrow.

In Christ’s love,
Bishop John Schol
