Message from Bishop Schol – Charles Sayre

August 11, 2020 | Messages from the Bishop

Dear GNJ Leader,

Late yesterday, Rev. Dr. Charles Sayre, one of the great saints of GNJ, drew his last breath and entered into life triumphant. He was 100 years old. Pastor, friend and mentor to many, he was first and foremost a disciple of Jesus Christ and a transformational spiritual leader for all of South Jersey. He had a heart to reach people for Jesus Christ and to be Christ in the world feeding the hungry, working for justice and helping to establish mission work in the city.

Rev. Sayre served Mercerville Church, Cranbury Church, as Executive Secretary for the Board of Education, First United Methodist Church Asbury Park and Haddonfield United Methodist Church. He retired in 1990.

Rev. Sayre will always be remembered as hopeful and encouraging, two of the finest qualities of any servant of Christ. Today we praise and thank God for the life of Rev. Charles Sayre.

We will keep you informed of the plans to celebrate his life.

Keep the faith!

John
