Title: Director of Christian Education at Christ UMC (Piscataway)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Part time position 10-15 hours per week. Annual Salary range:
$13,000-$16,000

REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor

A. JOB SUMMARY
Oversee and coordinate Sunday School, Youth Group activities, Safe Sanctuary policy and procedures, Confirmation process, and Adult Education including small groups.

B. CORE COMPETENCIES
– Ability to relate to young children and teens
– Strong knowledge of the Bible and Christian doctrine
– Commitment to Christ and ability to articulate his/her conviction
– Good public speaking and communication skills
– Strong administrative skills. Excellent role model of Christian behavior
– Basic computer literacy

C. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in education/ religion or equivalent experience

D. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Oversee and coordinate Youth and Family Ministries:
a. Support activities of the Sunday School Superintendent
b. Recruit, train and support Sunday School teachers
c. Plan and coordinate Vacation Bible School program
d. Phone and personal contact to visitors of Sunday School and students absent from Sunday School
e. Offer opportunities for spiritual growth and faith development.

2) Youth Group programs:
a. Be an active member of the Youth Ministry Team
b. Recruit, train and support adult volunteers
c. Coordinate and supervise Youth meetings and events (at least 1-2 overnight retreats peryear)
d. Provide opportunities for spiritual development for youth
e. Phone and personal contact to Youth Group Visitors and youth not active with Youth Group

3) Adult Education Ministries:
a. Facilitate Bible studies or coordinate facilitators for multiple studies
b. Support leadership of all Adult Education Programs, Sunday School and Small Groups
c. Preach Sunday services when asked

4) Safe Sanctuary for children and vulnerable adults:
a. Coordinate background checks for all adults who will be working with children and vulnerable adults
b. Ensure that all adult volunteers receive Safe Sanctuary training if they will be working with children and vulnerable adults
c. Ensure that Safe Sanctuary procedures are being followed

– This individual should be sensitive to youth problems and be able to discern if a child may need help. In all personal matters this individual must be trustworthy of confidential information, relating all critical matters to the Senior Pastor
