Churches support For Tanzania fundraising campaign, Part 2

January 29, 2024 | | GNJ News, Tanzania

Another church answered our appeal for information about their donation to GNJ’s For Tanzania campaign to help our mission partners in Tanzania build a church and pay pastors.

“For over 70 years, our church has been involved in Christmas tree sales during Advent,” wrote Terri Faltas, Chair of the Missions (“Serve God”) Team at Bishop Janes UMC in Basking Ridge “The money we raise goes 100 percent to missions.”

When the season’s first load of 550 Balsam fir trees arrived at the church November 25, church and community volunteers were there ready to unload, tag, arrange and price them for sale, as holiday music played in the background. The team determined which local and global missions would receive funds from the sales.

“We value the fact that as United Methodists, we are a connectional church.” That’s how Faltas explained the decision to donate to the For Tanzania campaign. “We felt we would be good stewards of the gifts God has given us if we supported this connectional mission that will be making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world! We are blessed to be able to humbly support this effort.”

The church also promoted the appeal in the church newsletter to invite individuals to donate, said Faltas.  “I pray sharing this information helps us reach the $100,000 goal!”

If your church has raised and donated funds to GNJ’s For Tanzania campaign, please tell us how and why, so we can share your story to inspire others. Write to us at communications@gnjumc.org. Thanks!
