Initial Submission is requested by Jan 31

Message from Conference Secretary:

We are looking forward to the 2022 Annual Conference for United Methodists of Greater New Jersey that will take place in May. Planning continues and we will keep you updated.

One of the important aspects of our annual conference session is the legislation.

We need your support regarding legislation.

Through A Journey of Hope, GNJ works to end the sin of racism, address inequities, build bridges, and facilitate understanding. Through our commitment to A Journey of Hope and conference policies, reports and legislation submissions to the annual conference will be reviewed for implicit bias by the Commission on Religion and Race (CORR) and the Committee on the Status and Role of Women (COSROW).

To assist in this process, the Conference Secretary has requested all legislation be submitted by January 31, 2022.

Legislative Recommendations
Important business will be decided. Following the Rules of Order of the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference (Rule III, 19 a-b), please be advised: Legislative recommendations including nominations to be approved by the Annual Conference session, proposals, resolutions and motions may be proposed by any committee, commission, agency, clergy member, lay member or local church. The deadline to submit initial recommendations to be included in the pre-conference journal is January 31, 2022.

  1. Initial Submission is due Jan 31 via the GNJ website.
  2. An implicit bias review will be conducted by CORR and COSROW, the Conference Secretary will notify the writers as necessary, and CORR and COSROW will provide specific feedback by Feb 14.
  3. Finalized recommendations are to be re-submitted to GNJ (if applicable) by committee/chairperson Feb 25.

Anyone submitting a recommendation is expected to attend the Annual Conference.

Recommendations need to include the following:

  • Name and contact information for the person submitting the recommendation.
  • Name of person who will present the recommendation
  • Indication whether the recommendation has financial impact.
  • Title of the recommendation.

(Recommendations with financial implications will be given to the Conference Council on Finance and Administration for review prior to the Annual Conference (Rule VIII, 71).
