Endowment for Theological Education: Miracle Sunday Endowment
The Endowment for Theological Education in Africa, Europe, and the Philippines is a worldwide initiative of The United Methodist Church, supported by the Council of Bishops, to strengthen theological education and leadership formation across the global connection. Congregations are encouraged to receive a “Miracle Sunday Offering” on any Sunday from May 17 to June 14, joining United Methodists across the connection in a shared act of generosity and hope.
Purpose and Impact
This initiative seeks to support 500 additional theological students each year, equipping current and future church leaders with education grounded in the Wesleyan tradition as they love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously.
Through this effort, we seek to address a long-standing disparity: 71% of U.S. clergy hold a master’s degree, compared with only 5% outside the U.S. While the General Conference allocates more than $50 million for 13 U.S. seminaries, it provides only $5 million for more than 20 seminaries in other regions of the world. This initiative is an opportunity for us to help close that gap and support the development of strong, well-prepared leaders across our global connection.
Miracle Sunday Offering
This campaign reflects the connectional nature of The United Methodist Church and our shared opportunity to equip leaders for ministry worldwide. Annual conferences and congregations are prayerfully invited to participate in this denomination-wide effort to invest in theological education beyond the United States. Below are two ways to engage:
- Pray for students, seminaries, and theological educators throughout the global connection
- Encourage your congregation to participate in the Miracle Sunday Offering on any Sunday from May 17 to June 14
