Reports To: Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee
Status: Part-Time
Position Summary:
Mantua United Methodist Church in Mantua, NJ is seeking a spiritually grounded, musically
gifted, and relational Music Ministry Director to lead and grow our vibrant music ministry. This
individual will plan and lead music for weekly Sunday worship, play piano and/or organ, and help
foster a worship atmosphere that blends traditional and contemporary styles in a way that reflects
the heart of our church family.
In addition to leading worship music, the director will coordinate and direct the adult choir and
other ensembles by assisting with rehearsals, scheduling, and music preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead music for weekly Sunday worship by playing piano or organ and selecting music that aligns
with the weekly message and liturgical calendar.
• Collaborate with the pastor and worship team to create blended worship services that honor both
traditional hymns and contemporary Christian music.
• Recruit and support musicians of all ages and skill levels within the congregation
(instrumentalists, vocalists, soloists, and small ensembles).
• Direct the adult choir.
• Foster a welcoming, spiritually grounded rehearsal environment, especially for the adult choir,
which is valued as a space of prayer and fellowship.
• Help organize special music for seasonal services (Christmas, Easter, etc.) and support guest
musicians and intergenerational worship experiences.
• Maintain the church’s music library and instruments, in coordination with volunteers and
leadership.
• Encourage congregational participation in music and offer meaningful opportunities for
musical service and expression.
Qualifications:
• Proficient in piano and/or organ, and comfortable leading congregational singing.
• Experience in church music ministry and an understanding of both traditional and contemporary
worship styles.
• Strong communication, organizational, and team-building skills.
• A friendly, approachable presence and a desire to build community through music.
• Spiritually mature and able to support worship as a ministry, not a performance.
• Experience with choir direction is a plus but not required—must be willing to mentor and empower
volunteers to take on musical leadership roles.
Desirable Qualities (Based on Congregational Input):
• Warm and welcoming
• Spiritually grounded
• Musically skilled and versatile
• Collaborative and supportive
• Passionate about drawing people closer to God through music
