Oct. 5, 12, 19 | 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Even before the Covid pandemic your congregation may have been experiencing a challenge filling all the positions on various committees. Many have expressed that “there are so many meetings, it is difficult to find time for ministry” or that the way they were meeting was draining energy and not producing the desired results. This workshop, over 3 sessions, will outline steps to explore a Simple structure of a “One Board” model. The main resource for this will be the book “Mission Possible: A Simple Structure for Missional Effectiveness” by Kay Kotan and Blake Bradford. The processes and steps for exploration and implementation align with the Book of Discipline and will explain how “one board” can care for and meet requirements for the work of finance, pastor parish relations, trustees and nominations. This is a model that congregations of all sizes have moved to, across the country.

Those participating in this three evening course will learn a step-by-step process for discerning and possible implementation of the shift to a One Board Model. You will hear from several congregations that have made the transition to this model.

This course is recommended for lay leaders, church council chairs, trustee members as well as pastors. While not necessary, it is recommended that a team from a congregation attend this course together.

Facilitators: Rev. Brian Roberts, District Superintendent of the Cape Atlantic and Gateway South Districts, as well as clergy and laity from area churches.
