IMMIGRATION & REFUGEES TRAINING
Creating Spaces of Welcome and Sanctuary in GNJ
In communities across our region, and churches across our conference, immigrant families bring an incredible diversity of gifts, and face daily fear of rejection and separation. Where is the Greater NJ conference and our United Methodist Church in this time? How do we stand together to support our immigrant brothers and sisters, and learn the most effective, authentic ways of being a church of welcome and sanctuary?
Join us in a day of sharing our stories, learning about the politics behind our broken immigration system, and strategizing together about how we can effectively organize our congregations in becoming Immigrant Welcoming or Sanctuary Congregations. Staff from the General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) will lead us through spaces of theological reflection, skills building, and action planning. To have the most effective experience, we highly encourage teams of 3-5 people from congregations to maximize the learning and planning. Space is limited.
