2007 Report of UMMen to Greater NJ Annual Conference
Why is Men's Ministry / United Methodist Men so tremendously important?
Because it involves: Every Man
Because it involves: Becoming a Disciple
Because it involves: Going Out and Making New Disciples
United Methodist Men Believe that they must be: "Doers of the Word and not Just Hearers only"
There is Tremendous Power in Men's Ministry: "Bring a Man to Christ and 93% of the Family will follow"
If a Man and His Wife Pray Together they will STAY TOGETHER!
What do we need to do to get started?
We must be about: Building Relationships
We must be about: Reconciling Relationships
Not when it's convenient but NOW.
And we must ALWAYS remember: That it's the person that's most important and nothing else!
We need to care about each other as Brothers in thought, word, and deed.
As we begin this journey together we need Resources:
We need to be about Reading our Bible
We need to be about Beginning Each Day with God to strengthen our Inner Man for the day ahead.
We need to become an EMS / Legacy Builder to support the work of UMMen
and Be Connected with Men throughout our great connection.
We need to read the books that the General Commission on UMMen suggests that we read to do this work:
"No Man Left Behind" by Patrick Morley - on how to Disciple Every Man in your church and "Spiritual Fathers" by Dan Shaffer which is the primer on becoming a "Wesley Man"
Lest anyone wonder what is happening with United Methodist Men just make the time to check out their web site: http://www.gcumm.org and that of their partner Organization, Man in the Mirror: http://www.maninthemirror.org
If you do so you will see why you must become a Supporter of Men's Ministry /
United Methodist Men in this Greater NJ Annual Conference and become an
EMS/Legacy Builder and become Actively Involved in Building a Men's Ministry
for EVERY MAN in your church.
The next step is to become a Chartered United Methodist Men's group because The United Methodist Church is a Connectional Church. We are all connected as brothers throughout all 35,000 United Methodist Churches. And
we can always learn from each other.
What can you do as an active Men's Ministry/United Methodist Men's group?
You can support the work of the Upper Room Living Prayer Center that answers calls from countless thousands 24/7.
You can support the goal of United Methodist Men to eradicate hunger in America.
And you can support the goal of United Methodist Men to provide a copy of the "Strength for Service" devotional book for every US Serviceman (to date some 250,000 have been distributed).
And Finally, when you are asked to gather with other Men (your brothers) at your Local Church, your District, your Conference, your Jurisdiction (Northeastern), and Nationally in 2009 for the 10th National Gathering of UMMen to be held in Nashville, Tn - you will answer - Yes, I will go - Send me Lord - because There is a POWER in Gathering Together - just as Our Lord, Jesus Christ did.
