Trinity UMC in Ewing hosted the Bishop’s Day on the Capital District on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. The morning session with clergy was blessed with a message on infectious joy by Rev. Dorothy L. Johns followed by honest and open communication during the presentation on The Call To Action and Vital Congregations. After lunch, the clergy sung hymns and prayed for one another during an anointing service.
In the evening, District Lay Leader Trey Gillette blessed the laity in attendance with a message about the journey to Emmaus. Rev. Dr. Doug Ruffle joined Bishop Devadhar in presenting about what the Call To Action and Vital Congregations movement means to local churches in the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference. The evening quickly turned to focus on the youth. There was passionate discussion and questions about how to reach the struggling youth of the Capital District. How can churches do more to help keep their youth from the temptation of all of the negativity they are surrounded by? There isn’t any one easy answer to this question but one thing was quite clear: the people of the Capital District were unified in their desire to do more and reach more.
Special thanks to District Superintendent Rev. Varlyna Wright, Conference Lay Leader Rosa Williams, Bishop Felton May, District Lay Leader Trey Gillette, Rev. Rev. Dr. Bradford Motta and all of the volunteers at Trinity UMC in Ewing and the Capital District for the wonderful hospitality.
