Dear Pastors, Certified and Basic Lay Speakers,
We invite you to share the enclosed schedule of classes for first-time Basic Lay Speakers with members of your church who may be interested in becoming Lay Speakers. A description of what it means to become a lay speaker is also included.
Any questions regarding the schedule of classes or Lay Speaking Ministries should be made to the District Director of your church?s District. Information for classes held outside your District should be directed to the District Director where the class is held. More information can be found on the Conference web site Lay Speaking link www.gnjumc.org.
We pray that you share this information with the members of your church and encourage those who feel called to become a part of this ministry. We ask that you post the information in your church and put an announcement in your church bulletin.

Please Note: The Basic Lay Speakers Class should not be confused with the Basic Lay Speaker Refresher Class. The Basic Class is for laity that have never been Lay Speakers. The Basic Refresher Class is for laity who have been Basic Lay Speakers for 3 or more years.

REQUIREMENTS: Lay Speakers must be an active and participating member of a United Methodist Church in addition to attending a minimum of 10 hours of class time, attendance at all sessions is strongly recommended. You must pre-register in order to take this class!
REGISTRATION: Registrations will not be confirmed prior to the first night of class. Please bring Bible, pen, and notebook. Registration instructions below. Please register prior to Feb. 6th, 2010.
COST: $50.00 per person prior to February 6th cut-off date ($60.00 per person after February 6th). It is suggested that the local church share in this expense as a sign of encouragement. Checks should be made payable to the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference.
REGISTER ON-LINE: New! On-Line Registration and payment is available for Spring classes. Go to the GREATER NJ ON-LINE REGISTRATION SYSTEM.
Classes must be paid for in full through either credit card or bank debit for the registration to be processed. If registering on-line, please ask your pastor to state his/her approval to take the class in an email and send it to acastaldo(at)gnjumc.org.
REGISTER BY MAIL: Return Registration form and check for $50.00 by February 6, 2010 and contact your District Director of Lay Speaking Ministries.
