An amazing summer at Aldersgate!!
Praise God for an amazing summer at Aldersgate Center! Our campers were singing, swimming, fishing, funyacking, horseback riding, hiking, and so much more. With the theme "A heart for God," campers learned about how God looks at our hearts and wants us to have a heart for Him. We joined together every morning for worship before campers went about with their various activities and came back together in the evening to close the day in worship as well. It was an amazing time for growing closer to God and one another.
If you spent a week at Aldersgate, there are several things you might notice. First of all, our campers had fun! Whether playing "Giants, Wizards, and Elves" in the field, swimming in the pool, sailing on the lake, or fishing in the pond, there was an abundance of smiles, laughter, and joy. No matter what they were doing, they had a blast!
The second thing you might notice is that our campers love the community of Aldersgate. Many come to camp with a friend or two, while some come alone, but they all quickly become like family. As they try new activities together, conquer the elements of the ropes course as a team, or just talk during Turtle Time, they build a bond that grows throughout the week, often leading them to keep in touch at home or arrange to attend camp at the same time next year.
Another observation you may have is that campers are interested in knowing more about God. Counselors reported having campers excitedly reading their Bibles, asking very deep questions, and really thinking about God. We had conversations about why God lets certain things happen, what is special about the Bible, and how God always loves us and will always forgive us when we turn to Him. These campers were excited about worship and about learning more about a God who is a very real part of everything we do.
Finally, in a week at Aldersgate, you would see a wide variety of opportunities for campers to grow. Some campers improved their swimming strokes through daily swimming lessons, developed their basketball skills with an intense week on the court, or increased their knowledge and experience in sailing. Many caught their first fish ever, rode their first horse, went on their first stream hike, or slept under the stars for the first time in their lives. For some, it was their first time away from home, while others tried a different type of camp for the first time. No matter what they were doing, campers were accompanied by caring counselors, directors, and volunteers who passionately desired to see them grow and to support them every step of the way. With the encouragement of a loving staff, every experience was an opportunity to grow.
All of these observations are wonderful things to see, but none of this would happen without the support of our church family. Thank you to the pastors, youth pastors, Sunday School teachers, and everyone else who spread the word about camp throughout the church. Thank you parents for entrusting us with your children (and a special thanks to those of you who sent cookies to the staff as well ). Thank you those who financially supported us and provided camperships for those who would otherwise have been unable to attend. Thank you to everyone who prayed for us. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to direct or counsel a week of camp. Thank you to those who helped with registration and to prepare our facilities. Thank you campers for sharing your joy and enthusiasm with us. Above all, we thank God for leading this ministry and being the center of all that we do. Yes, it definitely was an amazing summer at Aldersgate.
